What is the C.E.E.L.E.? (Calidad en la Enseñanza del Español como Lengua Extranjera)

This seal of quality was jointly created by the Departament of Spanish University of Alcalá and the Spanish Assosiation of Economic Resurces in 1999 in order to provide on internationally accepted standard in the teaching of Spanish.

Up to the point of its creation a specific standard of teaching Spanish as a foreign language did not exist in the form that the Education of other Languages already posessed.

Why has the C.E.E.L.E. been created?

Prior to 1999 there was no control in Spain that guaranteed the quality of Spanish teaching in the form that existed in other countries. C.E.E.L.E. certification assures that specific internationaly accepted criteria have been met by those centres of education.

Schools that apply for certification are subject to an inspection that evaluates 11 diverse aspects of teaching Spanish as a second language. The inspection is repeated every two years.

This seal guarantees the quality of the institutions and schools that offer Spanish which are put under a rigurous inspection that is carried out by specialist from the University.
